ANYWAY, I spent a lot of time bored at that job (apparently, because I don't actually remember). I started doodling on the scrap paper we always had around, and then one day for whatever reason I had brought a little pair of scissors to work. I decided to make paper chain cutouts (you know, like the chains of people that kids make in the stereotype of kindergarten). The pieces of scrap paper I had were half-sheets of 8.5x11 paper with stuff on the back... so I made do. Altogether, I made about 35 of these different paper cutouts, and I expanded quite beyond people (in fact, I'm not altogether sure I started with people). Chains of geckos, swans, elephants, planets, mermaids, and Chinese dragons made their way from my scissors. Then I forgot about them.
Luckily for me, I had stored them in a folder in a drawer at some point and discovered them again a couple of years ago. I was pretty impressed at what I had managed to do with just a little pair of kiddy scissors and ordinary old copy paper! I've been meaning to take photos of them and post on DA for some time now, and didn't get around to the photo-taking part til a few days ago.
I'm not altogether happy with the photos. I improvised for a background and wound up using a black skirt of mine, which meant that if I wanted a flat area with no seams, there wasn't a lot of space to work with. And some of the photos are blurry, others are uninspiring. I'm kind of up in the air about whether or which to post. I may try again sometime with a larger background fabric so I can arrange them more artistically. But I'm quite happy about the prospect of getting them up here. I'm very fond of these little paper things that came out of such an awful time in my life!
ETA: There will be more uploaded soon! When I get around to it!
